yesterday, may 15, 2006, gyldendal publishing company in copenhagen, denmark, published an expose' about the religion of jehovah's witnesses.
the name of the new book is, "dommedag ma vente," or, in english, "judgment day must wait," written by poul bregninge of denmark.
Thank you Barb, for all the time and effort you've put into letting others know the "truth" about the "truth". I know it would be so much easier to just "get on with your life" but there are so many others that can be helped by your efforts. Sorry I didn't get this posted earlier, but I got distracted by a phone call, then off to work. Thanks again.

i have been considering my options lately.
i feel like i need to talk to my chilren about my true feelings about being , or in this case not being a jw any longer.
my kids are all going to be home together, the first time in over two years, this next month .
We read your post and saw what we went through over 4 years ago. We began our "search" and studied 4-5 hours a day for two years. We typed a 60 page report for our children with over 700 scriptures and WT references, dealing with all the things we had found out about the WT. We had a 4 page "letter" that explained in brief why we hadn't been to meetings in 2 years and why we wouldn't be attending the next summer assembly. Needless to say, we "over-whelmed" them. I don't think they heard any of the letter we read them. It took 2 more years before our children began their own search. It was difficult even having much of a conversation with them, as they were sure we were "apostates" and took everything we said to be trying to "sneak" something into our conversations. Four of our five children didn't "shun" us, but one has, completely. When I saw him last week, with our granddaughter whom we hadn't seen for 2 years, he looked down, put his hand out and repeated, "no" and "don't mom". He said he'd heard we were apostates and didn't want to talk. Fortunately our other children have begun their own search and have come out also. If we had it to do over again, we would probably be a little more "gentle" with our approach, sticking with probably only one subject, like "607". I think if we'd ask them for help finding proof of "607" outside of the WT, we might have gotten further, sooner. Anyway, I guess we are fortunate that most of our children are out. I guess my advice to you would approach the matter that you have questions and need help finding satisfactory answers. JWD has had a lot of information about the "607" issue, as from it stems the validity for 1914 and the "faithful slave" appointment in 1918. Hope this helps. Just a brief comment about the "celebrated Watchtower scholars". In whose eyes are they celebrated? It made me think of a scripture in 2 Corinthians 10:12. The New World Translation puts it very well. "For we do not dare to class ourselves among some or compare ourselves with some who recommend themselves. Certainly they in measuring themselves by themselves and comparing themselves with themselves have no understanding."

my husband and his mother invited me to their memorial and i asked my hubby that he should come with me to easter sunday mass.
he told me that he couldn't go b/c he took an oath.. come easter sunday, my husband did not, i repeat, did not, come with me and my family to mass.their functions, i will not go!!
I can understand you're being upset, but I also understand where your husband is coming from. I was raised a JW for over 50 years, finding the "truth" for the last 4. I would have done the same thing. I remember my best friend in school invited me to her "worldly" wedding in her church and I didn't go. I couldn't mix "truth" with "false", going to a "false religious" church. I've felt very badly all these years, especially since she came to my wedding at the Kingdom Hall and had a good time. In the last 41 years we have spoken only a few times, and not recently, so I recently called her and said how sorry I was and how this bothered me so much over the years. She was very kind and forgiving, even though she said it didn't bother her. How loving and Christian she was. We have renewed an online friendship again, after these 40 years. As a JW you take the scripture seriously that says you can't be drinking of the "cup of Jehovah and the cup of demons". Perhaps by your checking out some of the subjects talked about on this forum, like the 607 BC "headache", you'll be able to ask some questions of your husband that he can't answer, getting him to begin doing "research". Your husband would be considered an "apostate" if he went to another church service. He didn't mind that you might be and "apostate" from your religion. Best of luck.

My husband and I have celebrated the "Memorial" in our home the past two years. It has been quite a moving experience. We spend time reading and talking about a number of scriptures. We read most of the scriptures dealing with the event itself, as well as related scriptures: Matthew 26:20-29; Mark 14:17-26; Luke 22:14-30; John 13:1-35; 1 Corinthians 10:16,17; 11:23-27. We also read a number of scriptues relating to the heavenly hope and salvation from Christ Jesus: Acts 4:12; 10:43; Matthew 19:27-29; John 3:16; 6:40, 51-58; Galations 3:26-28. We bought "kosher" wine and I made unleavened bread from a recipe I found. The Bible said Jesus sang after the supper, so we sang song #87, The Lord's Evening Meal. We looked over the "song", since it was from the JW songbook, to see if there was anything objectionable, and felt it expressed the scriptures well, which is a surprise! All in all it was a very moving experience, unlike anything from the Kingdom Hall. Jesus said to keep doing this till he came again, so it's uncertain if he meant "70 CE" or later, but observing the Memorial as a Memorial for what he did for us is still important to us.
my closes friend asked me today if her and her husband should just go ahead and write a letter of disassociation or wait to be df.

all the things i was finding out.
Personally, I want to wait and let them get rid of me just because I'm asking questions. That way I can say I didn't "ask for it". Who makes the decision, when you've asked to many questions? Love you're use of the "false" instead of the "truth"! Keep up the good work...we're proud of you both.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember Charles Russell talking about "theistic evolution" somewhere. Gen 1:12, 14, 20, 24, all could indicate this, although I'm uncertain on this issue as I havn't studied it enough. I've wondered about the polar bears...if the earth was a hothouse, and it'd never rained till the flood, did they "evolve" to have thick fur and layers of fat for the frigid north? Certainly Jehovah in his wisdom could have set things in motion, from the tiniest creature on up, overseeing it then saying he was pleased with the results.

i know there were some threads on this already but i can't seem to find them.. anyways, i know dear old mom will be there to ask me: "what points did you bring home from the assembly.".
come to think of it: i don't even know what the theme was this year!???
My daughter said the last circuit assembly they attended (last spring I think), didn't have anyone "sit down front" for the baptism. Caught everyone off guard and they had to give another talk. Suppose they'll start taking a congregation "head count" for baptismees so that doesn't happen again. It seems when we were going 4+ years ago, most that were baptised were young (growing up as a JW) and once in a while someone older, from the "field".

We're anxious to hear your tapes. We've been gone a few days, but our kids have kept us up-to-date on your post. Just a note about education. At Bethyl, who educates the lawyers for the Society, who programs the MEPS printing machine. Did these experts in their field educate themselves??? It seems the WT wants educated men at headquarters, but the rank-and-file is to be uneducated. The uneducated have a hard time thinking for themselves. The educated ask questions, and do not redily believe anything and everything anyone tells them without facts. The Bible and the real "truth" can stand up to any questions, the Watchtower "truth" can't.

i was reading some of the first " topics " on this db and i noticed that a few former elders and publishers .
were stumbled by this date.... i was born after 1975 and i'd really appreciate any comments from brothers and sisters who were around .
what i've noticed from personal experience is that many brothers and sisters feel that only " a few " were stumbeled .
I too had experience personally regarding 1975. I was baptized in 1958 and have been associated with the WT since 1949. My husband and I finally left 4+ years ago. 1975 was a very big issue to us, but we would go to assemblies, meeting old friends, saying "at least we're still here". Like "Rockhound" said, there was much made about 1975 and everyone was looking forward to it with anticipation.
We were, until I found out I was pregnant. I remember driving myself home from the doctors office, having to pull off to the side of the road and cry. I was so terrified, because I was due in August 1975, and could hear Jesus words in Matthew about woe to the nursing mothers. When I look back on that time, I feel sadness that a time of joy brought such fear. I had a beautiful baby girl that has grown up to be a wonderful wife and mother, who dearly loves the real "truth".
My aunt and father both were major stockholders in a company in Kentucky. In 1968 she sold her stocks and it toppled the company. She and my uncle paid off their house and car and anything else they could, leaving just enough to live on until the fall of 1975. They both neglected their health because the new system was so close. When 1975 came and went, they were nearly destitute. That didn't stop them from "looking the other way" as though nothing happened, like all of us did.
When my husband went to the Kingdom Ministry School for two weeks back in 1973, I can remember where I was when he called, excitedly telling me the instructor just showed them on the chalk board why "it might even come sooner than October 1975". It never dawned on us "no one knows the day or the hour". How stupid were we? I guess because our parents were JW's, it was good enough for us. We were "raised and JW and will die a JW", as many in the door to door work would say about their religion.
I'm so thankful we finally woke up. We started researching, really researching about 5 years ago. We havn't thrown the baby out with the bathwater. We have a closer relationship with Jehovah and Jesus than ever before. We have actually read the Bible, several times now. What a difference it makes when you actually read the context, and I don't mean a verse before and after, but chapters. I hope you continue on in your search, it will prove rewarding in the end. We realized we didn't want to exchange truth for the lie, so feel we've finally found out the truth about the "truth".
